The final countdown beings

Ah…we are now only a month away from taking Parker home.  It still feels like it is forever away but we have a two week trip to the States in a couple of weeks and we are picking her up the day we get back so with any luck those two weeks will go a lot faster than the past month has gone.
We have just about the supplies we need.  After much chasing of an ebay seller Parker’s crate finally arrived.  In addition to that we have her bed, toys, food and water bowls, grooming supplies and puppy pads.  All we pretty much need are a few puppygates and a collar.  Hopefully I can pick her up a nice collar in the States.

The good news is that we are going to get to see Parker for the first time since we picked her out on this Sunday.  We have to go down to pay the rest of the balance to the breeder and that means we will be seeing her.  It will be good to see how big she has grown and give me a chance to measure her for a collar.  We will be sure to take pleanty of pics!

It appears that getting a puppy is contagious.  Since we told our family about Parker my mother and my sister both have purchased puppies.  They bought two female minature dachshunds at the same time with one going to my sister’s home and one going home with my parents.  It took them forever to name them  but after running through many different names they finally picked Peanut (who my sister Bekky says is her nutty buddy) and Lilly (who my mother says is very femmine so needed a femmine  name).  As soon as I have a few pictures of them I will post them  and keep everybody updated on Parker’s American  cousins.

Speaking of pictures here are the latest two of Parker.

You just have to love the cute little face in this one:

In this one she looks like she is a bit bored with posing and wants to run off and play:

We will post more after we see her on Sunday!

Parker is a strange name for a girl

I keep hearing that from people and I can understand why they would think that. The name Parker has featured a lot in my life. Most importantly it is my mother’s maiden name but even on a lighter note my Cabbage Patch kid was called Parker Marsh..lol. It is obviously the family connection rather than the doll that influenced the name choice for Parker. I am unlikely to bring any other Parker into the Parker family so I thought it would be a good enough name for my four legged baby :)

Plus, us Parkers tend to be short, stout and full of personality. So, it felt that Parker was the perfect name for a pug :)

The family that has Parker at the moment has sent us a number of new pictures. Here of the rest of the ones we have at the moment:

This is my favourite picture of Parker to date. She just looks so sweet and happy in her sleep:

This picture is pretty precious too. This is Parker with one of her sisters. Parker is the one with her paw up.

This is the latest of the Parker pictures to come our way. Appartently Parker enjoys sleeping on her back. What a sweetie!

The first couple of days of April when we bring her home can’t come fast enough!

The magic and gift of a new life

Without getting too heavy I think it would be safe to say that they last few years hasn’t had much ‘life’ in it for me. Since late 2001 I have lost four people or animals in my life. Both my grandfather’s died and then in 2004 my husband who I had been with since I was 19 in 1996 died of a sudden heart attack. Nearly a year to the day after that our cat died.

I have been very blessed to have somebody as wonderful as Anthony in my life to keep me going and to keep me looking into the future. Now with Parker coming into our lives I feel for the first time in a long time that I am looking forward to new life rather than looking back at lost lives.
Just watching her development from afar shows what joy watching her step into life will bring us.

This is a picture that was sent to us of her while her eyes will still shut:

Parker with eyes closed

Then just a few days later we were sent this picture of her with her eyes open:

Parker With her eyes open

With such important life steps taking place within just a few days it just shows how much we have to look forward to over the years to follow.

Welcome to Parker’s blog.

This blog is going to be the ongoing record of our life with our new pug puppy called Parker.

Parker the pug was born on January 17, 2005. I was in contact with the family that owns her parents a few days before she was born and asked them to let us know if there were any females in the litter. I wasn’t against having a boy but the two dogs I had growing up were female so I thought it was best to stick with what you know.

On the morning of the 17th of January I got an email saying that the litter had arrived and there was three girls and one boy. I told them right away that I wanted to put claims down to one of the girls and when the litter was two weeks old we paid them a visit. They were all so very tiny but Parker was by the far the biggest of the group.

We held each one of the girl puppies one by one but Parker was the first one I picked up and I have to be honest and say that I knew straight away she was going to be the one I wanted to take home. I didn’t want to prejudice Anthony’s choice so I stayed quiet until it was his turn to hold Parker. The instant he held her Parker nuzzled into his arm and went to sleep. It was clear she would be Anthony’s choice too.

These are the first two pictures I took of Parker. This was the moment Anthony held her for the first time and you can see that by the second picture she was sound asleep in his arms. It took a whole 10 seconds for her to do that :)

The only other picture we took that day was of her mother Phoebe. We missed taking a picture of her dad Louis but we did get to see him too.

This is Phoebe watching over her litter very alertly from the comfort of her faveorite lap.

The family that has Parker until she is old enough to come home with us has been kindly sending us pictures every now and then so that we can see her progress. I will post them as they come in.
